Emrah Gökmen from Tunceli is a musician who has lived in Berlin for 16 years. He moved to Istanbul in 2005 to study music at the conservatory of the Müjdat Gezen Art Center. From 2009 he continued his education in Berlin and graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts. Emrah Gökmen is known for his strong social awareness. His musical work is deeply rooted in cultural folk traditions, especially in Turkish and Kurdish folk music. In his artistic work, he combines collective and personal memories and reinterprets iconic folk songs to shed light on social and political issues in a powerful way. His debut album Bağışla Beni combines classic folk songs with modern, contemporary arrangements.
